Princess Bling: Them's Fightin' Words

We went on vacation to the Quad Cities, Illinois, because that's where my family is from and it is the bomb with awesome restaurants and all that shiz. Tho I've realized living in a rural area is much more relaxing and disconnected. Whatever! So, my parents are not the type to listen to Elvis and that ilk - Dad was huge into hip hop and rap before he settled down with Mom. Notorious B.I.G, Snoop Dog, Jay-Z, 2pac, yep yep yep. So it was only fitting that as we were driving around our old neighborhood in the city, taking in the scene, that we were listening to 90s rap/hip hop on the satellite radio. And I was thinking about Princess Tutu, and I started this music video in my head....
Long story short, I did some concept sketches on the way home that turned out crappy but that got the point across, and I did clean-up versions once we got home.
My actual concept IS NO where near this extreme. THIS was for fun.
The actual idea is that Princess Tutu instead takes place in a poorer part of the city, where street dancing and urban beats rule supreme as a way to stay off drugs and away from the grittier elements. Duck longs to be able to bust out some awesome moves of her own, but due to her awkward personality and social situation (she's an only child with no one around but her druggie, mostly-absent mother) she's created an alter ego who steals the spotlight at the most outrageous parties and clubs - Princess Bling. She has a mega crush on a boy from a popular new hip hop group, The Ebb, and longs to dance with him on stage. But after some mystifying circumstances, an amnesiac boy named Mytho, the boy's look alike, pops up in her neighborhood. He's taken in by the stubborn, jerky, but kind-hearted Fakir. Together, the two make up their own dance team along with Rue, a beautiful, arrogant girl from an abusive home, and became legendary. One day, Duck stumbles across Mytho and confides in him her dream to dance with the best. He invites her to join his group, and although Fakir is unwelcoming, Rue takes pity on her and votes in Duck's favor. Things go well at first - until it is revealed only Princess Bling can restore the amnesiac Mytho's memories... But why? And what will happen once he regains them?
